Star One at last! But Travis is not the only enemy they must try to stop. There are worse things than the Federation...
Synopsis
Things are going badly wrong in Federation space. Spaceship autopilots are failing, weather control on the frontier planets is breaking down. The cause - a breakdown on Star One - the Federation's control and coordination centre. One massive computer with links to all other computers in the Federation. Durkim, a Federation computer expert, brings this knowledge to Servalan, who reveals that repairs will be impossible as no-one knows the location of the Star One.

The Liberator is closing on the edge of the galaxy, following Lurgen's co-ordinates retrieved from the planet Goth. Nothing is showing on the sensors and Zen has no information of what's outside the boundary of our galaxy. Avon has finally come round to helping Blake, knowing that without Star One the Federation will be a prime target for Blake, leaving Avon in control of the Liberator. Cally points out that without Star One's influence, many people will die, but Blake feels he has to go on and finish what he started. So the Liberator plunges into inter-galactic space.

In the control centre on Star One we see Stott examining some equipment. Lurena enters and is confused, she has just checked the same piece of hardware. Stott reveals they have been watching her, watching her signs of stress. Lurena bolts and manages to hide as Stott and fellow worker Parton reveal they are really aliens, who have assumed human form and already have control of Star One.

The Liberator closes on the only reading in the scanners, a single star, with a single orbiting planet - Star One. They begin a surface scan, looking for heat sources, which after a short while, Cally locates. Avon is doing some investigating of his own and discovers that between Star One and the Andromeda galaxy is a massive defense network consisting of anti-matter minefields. Built by the Federation, either to keep humanity in, or something else out.

Blake, Avon and Cally teleport down to the planet, carrying a number of explosives. The soon find the door to the control centre, but Blake and Cally are captured. Cally sends a telepathic message to Avon, warning him. Blake manages to bluff his way round the alien, who reveals they have been waiting for someone. Someone who insists on betraying all of humanity. It is not until the alien asks which arm is false does Blake realise they are expecting Travis. Once alone, Blake and Cally begin placing the explosives around the control centre. Travis arrives and is quickly captured by Avon. However, when they enter the control centre, Lurena gets in the way and Travis escapes. Avon kills one of the aliens, revealing his true identity.

Back on the Liberator, Vila has been scanning the region beyond the minefield. There, waiting patiently are thousands of alien ships. Waiting for some unseen signal. Jenna decides to use Orac to deliver a message to Servalan, warning of the impending invasion. Meanwhile, Blake is trying to get more information from the alien when Travis bursts in and shoots Blake, who falls to the floor in a corner. Travis then begins to deactivate the minefield. After only a small amount of mines are switched off, Avon enters and kills Travis and the alien. Struggling with his injuries, Blake gets Cally to begin removing the explosives, knowing Star One will be essential in the defence of the Federation. The explosives are removed just in time and they return to the ship.

The Federation battle fleet is closing, but are still a few hours off. With Blake recoving in his quarters, Avon orders the Liberator to stand defiant, after giving his word to Blake he would hold off the aliens until the Federation fleet arrives. the episode ends with Avon staring at the viewscreen, the alien ships moving forward, as he gives the command to fire.
